Juicing To Start The Day

juicing (1)The benefits of juicing are numerous. It supercharges your nutrient intake by providing your body with pure micro-nutrients, vitamins and enzymes, whereas cooking destroys enzymes. Enzymes are the work force of your body. They act as catalysts in hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions taking place throughout your body, and are essential for the digestion and absorption of food, and for the conversion of food into body tissue. Juicing also removes indigestible fiber, making these nutrients available to the body in much larger quantities than if fruits or vegetables were eaten whole, and gives your body a chance to ‘rest’ by introducing liquids only.

Dr. Gerson was a pioneer in juicing and has protocols for cancer and other diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and has several clinics in other countries (although he has passed, and I do not know who is running the clinics), as well as books on the subject. Jack Lalanne is also an old and trusted name in health, and was also famous for his juicing, back in the day. Here is some good reading about Dr. Gerson http://www.treating-cancer-alternatively.com/Juicing.html and here is a very through article on juicing http://www.living-foods.com/articles/benefits.html

We first started juicing about 2 years ago, purchasing the machine to aid Alison in detoxing and withdrawing from heroin. She soon began liking the ritual and the taste, not to mention it was much easier on her digestion at a time when her stomach was a raging 10 (not in a good way). It became another avenue for her to take toward investing in her own health. The juicers come in an array of prices from under $100 to over $2000, depending on the grade you want, how fancy, and what your budget permits.

It takes discipline to maintain good health, with a lifestyle based on prevention. I fall short when it comes to exercise- that is my downfall. Some don’t drink enough water. Some eat too much processed food, and some are neurotic and over-exercise or starve themselves or what not. But juicing is very flexible- good for the fat and thin alike- the active and the sedentary. I would like to add juicing to be a part of my already great morning routines https://www.pendulist.org/2013/09/25/acts-of-kindness/ and have now been perfecting my drinks several mornings a week.

Our morning mix consists of beets, carrots, celery, ginger, lemon, apple, grapes, blueberries, and sometimes cucumber, yellow pepper or orange. Make it a family affair. Gather around the juicer, and drink it right off the press!
